Gifts For Someone With Chronic Illness
As someone living with chronic illness, having things around me that are comforting is essential.
Practical items that help my health are also obviously important, but comfort is very, very much needed.
Living with a chronic illness often comes with fatigue, pain, or both.
It gets tiring to face sickness everyday because it takes a physical and mental toll.
If you have a loved one with chronic illness and want to get them something special, here are 11 gift ideas that will bring them comfort.
(Several of them also have practical health benefits, too!)
Pin for later:
Soft, Cozy Blanket
Everyone has a different constitution, but I’ve always had trouble staying warm.
And nothing says comfort to me like being able to curl up under one of my fuzzy blankets when I don’t feel well.
They both come in lots of color choices.
HappyLight: Light Therapy Energy Lamp
While I’m usually low on energy all year round, it gets worse during the winter months when there’s less sunlight.
Just supplementing with Vitamin D didn’t help me much, so I decided to try a HappyLight.
It can help with mood and sleep as well as energy.
Though it can’t match the power of real sunlight, it has been a help getting through long winter days.
Essential Oils & A Diffuser
I don’t know where I would be without my diffuser.
I never thought much about aromatherapy until I decided to try essential oils.
A diffuser is such a comforting thing to have running, and the oils themselves have health benefits and purify the air.
For the ultimate gift, get a Starter Kit of 12 oils + diffuser.
The essential oils are also highly comforting and therapeutic when mixed with Epsom salts and used in a bath.
All-In-One Essential Oil Starter Kit
Clean living + a healthy lifestyle are made simple with a Premium Starter Kit. Infuse your life with essential oils + get a free gift and welcome package!
Never underestimate the comforting power of chocolate!
I usually only eat dark chocolate because I like the taste better and because it has many of it’s own health benefits.
For a special gift, get a variety pack of dark chocolate Bark Thins (made with Fair Trade and non-GMO ingredients).
Or if the person you’re shopping for needs to avoid too much sugar, get this kind that is only sweetened with monk fruit.
Laughter really can be great medicine.
Laughing boosts happy endorphins which help to relieve the body of pain and stress. (1)
What kind of gift you get will depend on who you’re shopping for, but if your person is an animal lover, think about this 2020 WeRateDogs calendar.
Just looking at the preview made me laugh!
Hot Water Bottle
I decided to try a hot water bottle after reading about them in older British books.
It’s a great invention!
A hot water bottle is basically a portable heater that can go on any aching, sore, or cold body part without needing to be plugged in.
It can also be used to warm up part of the bed at night (great for someone who always has cold feet).
Bath salts are a great way to get the benefits of essential oils and the magnesium that comes from Epsom salts.
Not to mention the fact that a good-smelling, hot bath is very comforting and therapeutic on its own.
Chronic illness often comes with pain so this is one of the better practical + “luxury” gift ideas.
This is something that can be given along with any of the other gift ideas for chronic illness.
But a handwritten and heartfelt note can really make a difference to someone daily dealing with sickness.
It doesn’t have to be long. Just let your person know you’re thinking of them!
For something unique, give them one of these pop-open cards.
Soothing Body Lotion
As someone who gets dry, itchy skin, body lotion is a must.
But getting a really nice smelling and skin-soothing lotion is still something very comforting.
Go with the scent your person likes best, but I’ve really been enjoying Love Beauty and Planet products lately.
They have natural ingredients without a crazy price tag.
Their lavender and argan oil lotion is really nice and soothing.
Hot Tea or Hot Chocolate
Hot tea is another thing I rely on to get me through many days.
Large cups of tea can be very comforting (unless you’re a coffee drinker) and have all kinds of health benefits.
There are so many choices: black tea, green tea, red tea, herbal tea.
If you aren’t shopping for a tea drinker, maybe they would rather have this organic hot chocolate mix.
The right kind of pillow can be really comforting for anyone with chronic illness.
A microbead pillow is especially nice because the tiny beads inside make it flexible yet still supportive.
It can provide neck, knee, or back support and is great for providing extra comfort while traveling.

What's the deal with essential oils?
My favorite way of using nature for health and wellness is through essential oils. But with some people claiming them as a miracle cure and others denying they do anything, what can you believe?
