Starting A Young Living Business: 7 Compelling Reasons + First Steps
Welcome to the last and final post in my Oils and Freedom series!
If you missed the first two, you can read all about how to use essential oils for toxin free living and why use essential oils to live a life of natural wellness.
THIS post is all about a different kind of freedom:
The freedom that can come from having a successful Young Living business.
Why start a Young Living business? What are the benefits to having one? That’s what this post is going to be about.
Not that long ago I was where you are- considering the possibility of having my own business. Life wasn’t working out. I was going through a health crisis that eventually forced me out of working altogether.
I couldn’t have a ‘traditional’ job outside the home, my health wouldn’t let me work 40 hours a week, and my options were limited.
Since I was already using and loving Young Living oils and very passionate about natural health and wellness, I decided to take a chance and try the business.
It has been a learning curve, but it is also exactly the type of business I can build even with low energy and chronic fatigue.
So let me share with you 7 reasons why you might want to think about starting your own Young Living business + the first steps to getting started.
(Side note: The first step to building this business is being a member. If you aren’t already a Young Living member, you can become one by getting your Starter Kit here and then request free business resources here.)

#1- Financial Freedom + No Income Ceiling
Financial freedom is one of the reasons I started my business and one of the most compelling reasons I know of for you to think about doing the same.
Having a Young Living business is not like having a traditional job. It does take hard work, especially in the beginning, but you will not be trapped in the ’40 hours a week for a set amount of pay’ cycle.
Why?
Because there’s no income ceiling is this type of business.
Think about that.
No matter whether you have an hourly wage or a salaried job right now, there’s some kind of limit to how much you’ll ever get paid.
Or if you don’t have a job (maybe you’re a stay-at-home mom or going through a health crisis like I was) you are depending on someone else for income or living off of savings.
With Young Living how much you earn can keep going up with no limits.
You won’t get there overnight. I want to make it clear that this isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme.
But what all this means is: Financial Freedom!
This kind of business is setting people free right now. And a lot of those business builders are women (a bonus reason for why I love the business side of Young Living).
Go to this page and look at the income disclosure statement for Young Living. Click on the very first link and when the statement pops up, look at how much the average Diamond makes per month. (Spoiler: it’s over $35,000 per month.)
Does everyone make it to Diamond? Of course not. But the only ones who don’t are the ones who give up. If you commit, you could be the next Diamond.
#2- You Get Residual Income
Young Living is what’s known as a network marketing company. In the network marketing world, residual income does not mean the income you get after expenses have been paid (as it does in personal finance terms).
Instead, residual income is “income you continue to earn based on efforts you put forth initially.” (That quote comes from this article that explains it very well.)
So what does that really mean, and what does it mean for you?
Anytime someone is building a new business, there’s a large investment of time and effort at the beginning to get it up and running. If the business is successful, all that time and effort will become profitable.
But:
In a traditional business, you have to keep putting in time and effort equal to the income you want to make. If you close the doors of your business for a month, you will likely take a huge hit.
With residual income, once you build it it keeps coming- even if you stop putting in the same amount of effort.
How?
With Young Living it comes mainly from two things: commissions and team building.
When you refer someone to Young Living, you earn commission on their first purchase AND every single purchase after that. So if you show people how to use and love the oils, you will earn on their purchases for as long as they are a customer.
The other thing that grows your business is when a few people you referred to Young Living start building their own businesses. I won’t go into the details but basically, you earn commission on all the people under them, too.
All that equals residual income. Build it once, get paid for life!
#3- The Timing Has Never Been Better
All those things I just mentioned in the last two points about no income ceiling and residual income don’t matter at all if the product and company you’re building your business on aren’t relevant.
If people don’t want the product OR if only a small, small percentage of people want the product, network marketing doesn’t work.
The good news?
There is a HUGE market for all of Young Living’s products, and the timing has never been better for this.
Think about it:
What do people want? A lot of them want natural products, natural wellness, natural solutions. People are tired of finding out how many chemicals are in their everyday products and want their families to be healthy.
They already want everything Young Living offers, especially the essential oils.
As I’ve been building my business, I’ve been surprised at how many people have reacted with, “Oh, yeah, I’ve been really interested in essential oils but just haven’t tried them yet.”
The demand is out there, and this is the perfect time for a Young Living business.

#4- You Get Time Freedom
What is the real goal of financial freedom?
Everyone is going to have a different answer to that, but for me it mainly comes down to time freedom.
Yes, I want to be able to buy all the organic, healthy stuff, pay all my bills, buy my own home, and all that. But my deepest desire is to have the time to spend enjoying life, helping others, and doing things I’m actually passionate about.
I will never get that with a traditional job.
I’m paraphrasing something from Richard Brooke’s book Four Year Career (which you should totally buy if you are interested in a Young Living business): Most people work 40 hours a week, for 40 (or more) years of their life to retire on 40% of what was never enough in the first place.
40 hours a week for 40 years of your life?
What kind of time does that leave you to do the things you enjoy or to be with your family or any number of other things?
A Young Living business can break that cycle because financial freedom will give you time freedom as well.
Plus, you get to be your own boss and set your own schedule!
#5- Young Living Is A Great AND Growing Company
In order for anyone to succeed at network marketing, gain financial freedom, and make residual income, the company they build for has to be a good one.
The company needs to be ethical, have a solid vision and plan for the future, and be committed to its members and business builders.
Young Living is all of that (and more).
Most network marketing companies go out of business in the first 5 years. Young Living just celebrated 25 years in business and is still growing!
The products are the highest quality products, and Young Living operates in a completely ethical and professional way. Being a part of Young Living is actually a bit like being a part of a big family.
Most importantly, Young Living is committed to the success of its business builders.
You will get all the support you need not only from Young Living itself, but especially from the groups and communities within Young Living. Your upline is specifically there to help you and point you toward resources.
If you want to start your business by joining under me, I will provide you with free resources and get you in all the business groups.
I also highly, highly recommend watching this video to learn more: Why Young Living? Why You? Why Now?

#6- You Don’t Have To Carry Stock Or Make A Large Investment
One of the best things to me about having a Young Living business is that I don’t actually have to keep any essential oils on hand and sell them to people.
I mentioned this before but the business basically works by you referring people to Young Living, them using your unique member number when they join, and you earning commission.
That’s it. No buying large quantities of product and hoping you can sell it.
It is possible to actually sell the oils to people, but that’s a whole lot more work for a lot less return. Why go the hard way?
The other great thing is that starting this kind of business does not require a large investment.
You can seriously only get the Premium Starter Kit (which costs $165) and build your business from there. What other type of business can you start for $165?
Of course, there are certain investments that can help your business grow faster but they are not required.
I have chosen to invest in things like samples and informative booklets to show people the value of Young Living, and I also invest in the people on my team (that is THE best investment you can make).
So if you join under me, you get a welcome package with resources and a free gift because I want you to love Young Living and benefit from the oils.
That’s an investment I consider well worth making, but your budget for this is totally up to you.
#7- It’s Not A Scam
Okay, so this maybe isn’t technically a reason for starting a Young Living business, but I think it’s important to include.
When people start learning about the business model Young Living uses, sometimes it gets confused with a pyramid scheme or some other unethical scam.
Young Living is definitely not a pyramid scheme and not a scam.
Seriously, pyramid schemes and scams are illegal, and Young Living would have been closed down a long time ago if that’s what they were.
Network marketing is still a newer business model (only about 70 years old!), which means it can take a bit of time to understand how it works.
You will learn more about it as you build (and it’s not hard), but the important thing for you to know is that this is a 100% legitimate business opportunity and thousands of people are succeeding at it.

Starting Your Young Living Business
So now that you’ve heard all the reasons for starting your own Young Living business, what’s next?
Well, you have a few options:
- You could do nothing. Maybe this isn’t for you or maybe now isn’t a good time.
- You could think about it for a while (which by the way, is still doing nothing).
- Or you can get started and build your own business- as quickly or as slowly as you want to.
Now, I’m not saying that you should rush into anything without careful consideration. But I am saying that if you wait until you have enough time or enough energy or until the timing is just right, you will never get started!
The sooner you start building, the sooner you’ll find freedom.
But let’s say you’ve read all the reasons, weighed your options, and you’re in. What are the first steps?
- The very first step is that you need to be a product of the product. All that means is that you should be using and loving Young Living oils and products before you try building a business.
This is not a business you can or should do just to make money. You need to already use and love what you’re going to be promoting.
- SO if you are already a Young Living member and have gotten a Premium Starter Kit, you’re off to a good start. The next step is to contact your upline and ask them whether they have any resources or training you can take advantage of and whether there’s a business Facebook group you can join.
I would also go to Amazon and buy the book I already mentioned- Four Year Career: Young Living Edition by Richard Brooke. This is by far the best network marketing book I’ve read, and it will explain exactly how network marketing works, how you’ll make money, and how to build your business.
- If you haven’t joined Young Living yet, you are more than welcome to get your Starter Kit and join under me. I invest in my team, so I will send you free business resources in your welcome package (including the Four Year Career) and get you plugged in to business building groups.
All you need to do is go here and order your Premium Starter Kit (make sure you use my member number). Then, either fill out this form to get the free business books sent with your welcome package or send an email to karen@thesimplelifesimplified.com requesting the business resources.
